The TRUE and FALSE of gummies

Activ'Inside Manufacturing
  • True or False: Gummies contain a lot of sugar or sweeteners
    โŒ FALSE
It is possible to make sugar-free gummies, as we do at Activ’inside.
It’s true that traditional gummies are often loaded with sugar. However, at Activ’inside, our gummies are completely sugar-free. Instead, we use polyols as sugar replacements. These alternatives offer sweetness with up to half the calories.

    โœ… TRUE, but…
Sorbitol is one of the polyols we use. To put it in perspective, a prune contains about 10% sorbitol. Thus, a gummy made with sorbitol contains as much as a small prune.
Another polyol, maltitol is 40% lower in calories, and boasts a low glycemic index. It’s commonly found in pastries and chewing gum and is non-cariogenic, meaning it doesn’t cause tooth decay.

We understand the concerns regarding the overconsumption of polyols. That’s why it’s crucial to adhere to the recommended dosage for dietary supplements and posology has to be mentioned.
When consumed within these limits, polyols do not cause any adverse side effects.

  • True or False: Gummies don't contain enough active ingredient to be efficient
    โŒย ๐—™๐—”๐—Ÿ๐—ฆ๐—˜
Contrary to popular belief, Here at Activ’Inside We have developed techniques that allow us to formulate our gummies with up to 600mg of active ingredient which is the equivalent of two capsules.

That being said, there are cases where the unpleasant taste of some active ingredients can lead to a reduction in dose. However, here at Activ’Inside we have a dedicated team of formulators who focus specifically on the organoleptic side of our formulas, that are investigating innovative solutions that will help us avoid this issue in the future.

  • True or False: Active ingredients are altered by heat during the gummies manufacturing process
    โŒย ๐—™๐—”๐—Ÿ๐—ฆ๐—˜
Our engineers have developed a manufacturing process that guarantees the stability of active molecules during gummy production and throughout the product’s lifespan. Particular attention is given to the assessment of the thermosensitivity of our active ingredients.

By carefully evaluating and selecting the most appropriate active ingredients and their relevant forms,ย we ensure optimal protection throughout the process.ย Our gummy matrix helps protect certain molecules from degradation, ensuring their stability throughout the process.

Chromatography and spectrometry are used to analyze the behavior of these active ingredients, following protocols established by our quality control and R&D team

  • True or False: The active ingredients in gummies are less bioavailable and less effective than those found in other galenics
    โŒย ๐—™๐—”๐—Ÿ๐—ฆ๐—˜

Bioavailability is an indicator of the absorption of a nutrient or active ingredient by the body. A clinical study in 2019, for example, showed that vitamin D delivered by gummies was 2 times more bioavailable than the same vitamin D delivered in capsule form. This form of vitamin D can therefore be very interesting for the absorption of certain nutrients.

In addition to the fact that the matrix of gummies is more supple and hydrated than that of tablets or capsules, which can modify the bioaccessibility of nutrients, consumption of gummies requires chewing, which allows better contact with the oral sphere and its extensive vascular network, particularly under the tongue. It also allows the secretion of enzymes involved in the digestion process.

In terms of efficacy, At Activ’inside, we last demonstrated the efficacy of gummies containing our saffron active ingredient Safr’insideโ„ข in a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study. The study clearly showed positive results in terms of both improved sleep and favorable modulation of the microbiota.
