Cordyceps is a genus of medicinal fungi widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Tibetan medicine for centuries. Known worldwide by its nickname ‘Brown Gold’ indicating its value, there are among more than 400 identified species.
Cordyceps sinensis grows naturally in the high-altitude regions of the Himalayas, including Tibet, Bhutan, Nepal, India, and China, at elevations between 3,000 and 5,000 meters and is quite rare to find in the wild.
Traditionally, populations in China, Tibet, Nepal, and India have consumed Cordyceps species to help their bodies adapt to the harsh conditions of high-altitude environments, including low temperatures, reduced oxygen levels, and demanding physical stress.
Due to the rarity of of this mushroom in the wild, Cordyceps sinensis mycelium used in dietary supplements is produced through liquid fermentation. This is a high-tech, controlled, and standardized process. This product is authorised in Europe (EFSA).
