– Endogenous collagen synthesis

Collagen makes up around 80% of the skin’s proteins and forms a network of fibres that keep the dermis strong, giving it firmness and elasticity. A preclinical study demonstrated that collagen peptides treatment significantly increased collagen synthesis in human fibroblasts compared to untreated control, demonstrating a boosting effect of collagen peptides on collagen levels

Vitamin C

– Antioxidant reaction

By neutralising free radicals, vitamin C protects the skin from oxidative damage and reduces the appearance of wrinkles.

– Collagen synthesis & protection

Vitamin C is involved in collagen synthesis by acting as a cofactor for certain enzymes that promote the activation of cells responsible for collagen production (fibroblasts). It also inhibits its degradation by limiting the activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs).

A double-blind, randomized and placebo-controlled clinical study showed that:

– After 56 days of supplementation with 5-10g/day of collagen peptides, skin elasticity, firmness and hydration increased significantly, as measured objectively with a cutometer and corneometer. The improvements were also assessed by a dermatologist and more than half of the volunteers reported an overall improvement in the condition and appearance of their skin.
