Mechanism Of Action

To achieve efficiency, Vitamin D3 or Cholecalciferol must undergo two enzymatic transformations.

  • The first, results in Calcidiol, the circulating and storage form of vitamin D
  • The second, leads to the active form of vitamin D: Calcitriol.


Calcitriol, the active form of vitamin D, acts on bowel cells, bone cells, kidney cells and immune cells.

An in-vitro study has shown that polyphenols increase the expression of the gene responsible for the activation of vitamin D. boosting the conversion of vitamin D3 into its active form.

BONE HEALTH

Calcium is the major component of bones and calcitriol (Vit. D active form) allows a better calcium absorption in the gut and increases Ca2+ availability in blood vessels, promoting bone mineralization. Accordingly, an epidemiological study carried out in USA on 13,492 subjects shown a significant positive correlation (p<0.001) between vitamin D levels and bone mineral density (BMD).

Noteworthy, BMD is a validated parameter used to evaluate the risk of fracture in aging adults. Indeed, BMD tends to decrease with age and a cross-sectional study with more than 15,000 data analyzed has shown that low BMD is correlated to risk of fracture.

Finally, a cross-sectional study conducted in 1,256 women aged 65-76 showed a significant correlation between tea drinking and BMD: tea drinkers had a significant higher BMD than non-tea drinkers.

ImprovD³™ thanks to its composition, helps to maintain sufficient BMD to limit fracture risk, especially in the elderly people.
