The use of blackcurrant in folk remedies dates back centuries, particularly in Europe and Asia and was traditionally used for a number of reasons including the promotion of eye health. Blackcurrents are rich in anthocyanins, a type of polyphenol antioxidant that serves to help protect the eyes from damage by oxidative stress.
The anthocyanins in blackcurrant extract can provide improvements in vision, such as low light adaptation, and transient refractive alteration. In vitro tests have shown that anthocyanins could protect cells from blue light- induced damage.
Blackcurrant is also vasculoprotective and veinotonic: it helps improve microcirculation in the lower limbs due to its capacity to reinforce the strength and permeability of capillaries. Our extract contains ≥40% total polyphenols (UV) with 30% Anthocyanines (HPLC), and ≥10% cyanidin-3- glucoside (HPLC), which induces the release of vasodilating factors that act on blood vessels.
