Dandelion has a long history of traditional use in many systems of medicine in the treatment of hepatobiliary problems. In Russia, India, and China, traditional folk medicine utilized dandelion roots and leaves for treating liver problems. Additionally, dandelion has been employed as a diuretic to promote urine production and remove excess fluids from the body.

Dandelion extract has traditionally been used as a natural remedy to increase urine production, promoting flushing of the urinary tract and as an adjuvant in relieving minor urinary complaints. This traditional usage is supported by a clinical study that demonstrated a significant increase in the frequency of urination with supplementation of dandelion extract.
